He graduated from the Polytechnic University of Turin in Electronic Engineering, then obtained an MBA from the INSEAD Business School in Fontainebleau (France).

He has worked with Andersen Consulting in Spain and with FMC in the United States (California). From 1992 to 1996 he was Senior Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company, in the Milan office, with a focus on media, retail and fashion. In 1997 Michele co-founded Net Partners Ventures, the first venture capital firm in Europe exclusively focused on companies active in the internet sector. In 2005 Michele founded A.M.E. Ventures, an investment holding company, focused on new companies active internationally in the internet sector and in the renewable energy sector. AME Ventures controls, among others, Solar Ventures.

In 2002 Michele Appendino was appointed Global Leader for Tomorrow of the World Economic Forum and is a member of the Aspen Institute in Italy; he is also a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization, an international network of entrepreneurs.
Michele is internationally recognized as an expert in the solar sector and is a frequent key speaker at international conferences in the sector. The strong personal involvement in the renewable energy revolution is also evidenced by the BehindEnergy.com initiative, Telling the Truth about Energy.
