John Cooper

John Cooper is Senior Manager of Developments at Decerna Limited, a UK-based renewable energy development company specialising in sub-5MW solar farms and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). In this role, John is responsible for technical project delivery, grid connection applications, and supporting business development across a portfolio of sites in the UK and Europe.

Decerna focuses on progressing renewable energy projects to “spade-ready” status for sale to institutional investors and larger developers, enabling purchasers to avoid early-stage development risk while accessing grid-connected opportunities.

John has experience working with UK planning policy, project design and construction, environmental constraints, and NESO’s connections reform process. He has been involved in projects navigating the Gate 2 requirements, contributing to an understanding of how recent grid connection reforms are affecting development timelines and site selection within the UK renewables sector.

With a background in engineering, project management, and commercial development, John applies structured, data-led methods to identify suitable sites for sub-Electricity Act renewable projects that avoid transmission-level constraints.
