Central and Eastern European Solar – The Key to EU 2030 Renewables Goal

Time: 10:00 - 10:40

Date: Day Two of 2024 Solar Finance and Investment Europe Summit

Theatre: Stream One

Synopsis

The EU has targeted renewables to account to 42.5% of overall energy consumption by 2030 which would require doubling the share of renewables in the EU’s energy mix. This target will be impossible to meet without significant renewable deployment in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) as the region currently generates only around 25% of electricity from renewables compared to 55% from fossil fuels presenting a real risk to the region being left behind in the European energy transition.
